You've Been Warned: Siri Likes Pet Names Too

October 18, 2011
By default, Siri calls you by your first name as it is listed in the Contacts app on the iPhone 4S. However, this can be changed to whatever you want. Yet, you better be careful because others could get this information too. Changing how Siri addresses you is as simple as asking her to call you something else. For example, as a test for this article, I’ve asked her to address me as “The Master” from now on. After confirming this change, Siri automatically changes my nickname in the Contacts app accordingly. Going forward, however, this information is automatically stored within your .vcf card, which can be sent to others via the iPhone/iPod touch under “Share Contact.” Therefore, keep this in mind if you decide to have Siri call you something you'd rather others not see. Also note, once you ask Siri to change your name to something else, there isn't a way for it to once again default to your first name. For example, in this example, I've asked Siri to once again call me "Bryan." Within the Contacts app, however, this change is reflected within the nickname field. In other words, Siri doesn't simply delete the nickname and begin using your first name again. To do this, you must go into the Contacts app and then remove the nickname manually.
