Apple Delays Launch Of iTunes Match
November 1, 2011
At its “Let’s Talk iPhone” event last month, Apple announced that its iTunes Match service would launch by October 31. Unfortunately, that date has come and gone and the service is not yet available to the public – or anyone else for that matter.
On October 11, Apple released a beta version of its iTunes application (10.5.1) to developers. It was with this version developers were able to begin using iTunes Match. However, that beta expired last night and hasn’t been replaced with a new one. Meaning that, as of today, no one (besides those within Apple) can use the highly anticipated service.
First announced by the late Steve Jobs in June, iTunes Match lets users “match” the songs in their iTunes music library with Apple’s new iCloud product. Once music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it on any of your devices.
We’re not sure why iTunes Match has been delayed; more importantly, perhaps, we also don’t understand while Apple left the iTunes beta expire. Hopefully this means iTunes Match is arriving for the masses sooner not later. Naturally, we’ll keep you updated.
