TwitterStream HD ($1.99) by WhereMark is a tranquil and relaxing way to read your feed on the iPad. If you are tired of all the “noise” in the Twitter-verse, take it down a notch with this relaxing social networking app.

Unlike most Twitter apps, this one is based on aesthetic, not feature-heavy functionality. The point is not to be on top of the social networking ladder, but to sit back and relax while the world moves around you. The background is a pleasant visual of lush plants, smooth pebbles and crystal clear water.

Each tweet rests atop a leaf that floats down the stream. The water can be touched causing a ripple effect that interacts with the leaves. Leaves can be moved around, flicked off screen, or tapped for further investigation. When a tweet is tapped, a window appears that shows the entire post. If there is a link, it can be accessed from this window.

When the app first opens, it will load local feeds based on your location. By tapping the “I” for information at the top right side of the screen, you will be able to log in and load your personal Twitter stream. In this window, there are also options to turn on or off public timelines, trending tweets or local tweets. By tapping the “t” at the bottom right side of the screen, you can write and post a tweet.

This is not a feature-rich app. Only one account can be logged on at a time and tweets are recycled every few minutes, meaning that only the top twenty tweets will float by before the stream restarts again. Images can’t be added directly from within the app. A link would have to be copy-and-pasted into the tweet window. Mentions, activity and lists are not accessible. But keep in mind that this Twitter app is meant to be relaxing, not rush hour for the social network. It is designed to be easy on the eyes and stress free.

Overall, this is a fantastic and unique Twitter app. The design is elegant and relaxing. Although the features are barebones, it adds to the Zen atmosphere that the developers are trying to create. If you want to get away from it all, but just can’t bring yourself to turn off your Twitter feed, pick this app up. At only $0.99 there is no reason not to take some time out and unwind with TwitterStream HD.
