Focus Your Ninja-Like Spelling Skills In Alphabet Assassin
Alphabet Assassin ($0.99) by ThumbTwist Games is like Fruit Ninja, if the ninjas had dictionaries instead of fruit baskets.
You are presented with a target word and your goal is to swipe its letters, in order, as they fly across the screen. Get all the letters, and you're on to the next word. The faster you complete each word, the more time you get.
Don't just swipe wildly, though. If you hit the wrong letter, you'll lose the last correct letter you locked down. However, if you get multiple letters at once, you get bonus combo points. Every now and then, whatever letters are left in the target word will appear on the screen, in sequence. If you're fast enough, you'll get major points and clear the word.
In addition to regular letters, there are four special letters. Iced T's slow down time, Special I's make it so only the letters in the target word appear and Double D's give you double points for a limited time.
The fourth of these letters are the aptly-named N-ema's. These letters are your enemy. Hit one of these and your score will be cut in half, and any letters you've gotten in the target word will be cleared.
The bonus letters look different, but they count towards the letters in your target word, if you get them at the right time.
There are also gems you can swipe as you play. Earn enough and you can unlock new themes. If you're really impatient, you can actually buy gems but, considering that the themes don't particularly change the gameplay, I can't imagine you would want to do that.
It's not the most polished game available, but if you're looking for some Fruit Ninja action with a more focused goal, you might want to check out Alphabet Assassin.
