DraftCraft Provides A Minimal, Sleek Interface For Bloggers

November 18, 2011

DraftCraft ($3.99) by Neoline LLC is a writing app focused on uploading blog posts.

Ask any college composition professor, and they’ll tell you that writing is rewriting. This app takes that saying to heart with its star rating system. The idea is that once you create a rough draft of a post you’d like to make, you can assign it up to five stars. If it’s less than five stars, you’ll know to come back to it later.

The app’s skeuomorphic interface looks like a notepad in a leather folio. Unfortunately, the design is only limited to landscape mode. A toggle switch on the side will arrange the drafts either by chronological order or by star rating.

In addition to entering your title, tags, and text, you can also upload photos from your iPad's photo library.

Connect to your WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, Sina, or Blogs.163 blog. With the exception of WordPress, all you have to do is enter your username and password. Once you’ve crafted your post to that five star rating, you can export it to any of your connected blogs. The published post gets a neat little “posted” stamp on it so you know it’s live.

The star rating is really cool, but it would be nice if it extended into other projects, like writing short stories. The time between writing a blog draft and revising it isn’t enough to warrant rating it once and then again. I’d venture to say that I’m not alone with this thinking (though I’ve been known to be wrong, just ask my wife).

This app definitely reduces any distractions from writing, though it’s a shame how limited it is in its scope. The official WordPress, Blogger, and LiveJournal apps are all free. While they don’t look nearly as cool as this app’s design, they still achieve the same goal.
