Help This Rejected Screw Achieve Freedom In Pitty The Conqueror

Pitty The Conqueror ($0.99) by DigitalWetwork is a game with a story about a screw who wants more. That's right, a screw. Pitty the screw is stuck on the bottom of the toolbox and wants to find out more about the world outside of the dark and lonely place he's called home for so long. Not to mention his enemies โ€” screwdrivers, bolts, saws โ€” are all there trying to prevent his escape. Pitty just wants freedom; can you help him achieve it?

The controls are simple. You tilt your iDevice to move Pitty as he bounces upwards from platform to platform. You constantly jump and can move from side to side, but if you miss a platform, you fall and you must start over.

There are other things to collect along the way: marbles and blankets. Once you collect a marble, you're inside of it for a while and they help you jump. If you land on a platform that is the same color of the marble you're in, it holds you in place until you tap the screen to jump. This jump is a big one and will send you flying for a short time. You can cover ground quickly this way, or by collecting the boots with wings.

If you collect a blanket, it gives you immunity to the enemies and obstacles of that color. For example, if you grab a red, fire-like blanket, you can bounce right into a screwdriver that is red while under the affect. This will knock them off the screen without hurting Pitty.

Enemies will be shooting things at you and moving around you, so be cautious and time your jumps appropriately if possible. Also, some of the platforms are cracked, so if you land on them, they break instantly and you will fall if nothing is there to catch you.

It took me a while to unlock the next levels. I think I had to hit about 15,000 points before the second level was available for me to play. Although it may seem like you're getting nowhere, just be patient. There are 10 levels total, so this game will surely keep you busy for a while.

I love the music in the game, but the sound effects I'm not sure I can handle for too long. Pitty squeaks out "jump" or "up" every time he jumps, and it gets kind of irritating. However, it does give you feedback as to when he jumps, so maybe it's a good thing.

The main issue with this game was with the graphics. Don't get me wrong, they're great, but very glitchy. While playing, I noticed some of the world wouldn't render or parts of the screen would flash. Hopefully, they will look into this and fix it. Although it didn't hinder my gameplay too much, it was quite distracting and sometimes the platforms wouldn't render fully, making it even more of a challenge to survive.

Pitty The Conqueror is available in the App Store โ€” $0.99 for the iPhone version and $0.99 for the iPad version. Unfortunately, it isn't universal and although it has Game Center support, there are no achievements (boo). But all together this is a fun and challenging way to pass the time.
