Put Gestures To Work In Shuffle+, And A Giveaway!

November 10, 2011

Shuffle+ ($0.99) by JM Apps gives you gesture-based control over your playlists.

Call me crazy, but I’ve grown too accustomed to using a click wheel to navigate songs. I’ve also been burned by trying to play playlists on my iPad pre-iOS 5. Why, oh why, couldn’t it just play single songs across different albums?

While Shuffle+ doesn’t use a click wheel design to navigate songs, it does a lot of justice to playlists. Technically, even listing your music library by album, artist, or song is considered a playlist.

As you play a song, you can swipe ahead to see what other songs are in the queue. Your current song playing will always be listed at the top. Double tap a song if you want to play it, or swipe up to remove it from the list.

Say, for example, you made this great playlist full of songs you enjoy, but today you’re just not in the mood for Elliot Smith.

Swipe forward until you see his album and swipe up to remove it from the list. The Modest Mouse song that follows, however, would be right up your alley (especially if it's "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine"). Just double tap it to start playing.

In the settings menu you can customize what gestures to use for the different controls. The defaults, however, worked just fine for me.

The interface looks spot on to the default iPod app, but it would be neat to see what the developer’s take on the interface would be.

I just wish you could save your modified lists.

GIVEAWAY: We have one code for Shuffle+ to giveaway to a reader! Just leave a comment on this post about what your favorite song is with a valid email address (so we can contact the winners) by Friday November 11, 4 p.m. PST. We'll pick the winner randomly. Good luck!
