Tile Deck Makes Anyone An iPad Artist
TileDeck ($0.99) by Workmates let’s you tile in style.
This app is powerful in its simplicity. Instead of drawing everything across the whole screen of your iPad’s canvas, all you have to do is draw in one little shape. The app takes over from there by repeating it in any style that you choose. Even the simplest stroke takes on a life of its own when it repetitively fills the canvas.
Select the grid design to create your work of art. Even though the three choices only consist of a triangle, square, or rhombus, there are still plenty of options for design using any of them. Pinch and zoom the shape to open it up wider for adding more detail.
The way this app works is that you are given the shape you select as a canvas. Draw anything you’d like and the app instantly repeats the design across the whole picture. Don’t like what you did? You can easily undo. Think twice about undoing? Redo.
The creativity really comes into play when you select the pattern repetition style. Choose from anywhere kaleidoscope to zigzag flip. It’s neat to watch your one design turn into something different with each selection of the repetition style.
A variety of ways to export are available as well. Set your masterpiece as your iPad’s wallpaper, email it, print (if you actually have that ability), tweet it, or compose it as an eCard. The eCard is perhaps the coolest option because it will generate it in a nice card design to email to anyone you’d like.
If you’d really like to crow about your art, you can email it to the developer for displaying in their gallery.
For $1.99, this is a great deal for a very versatile app (pun slightly intended).
