Quirky App Of The Day: Self Modulation Radio

Self Modulation Radio sounds like something out of a 1950s psychiatric ward. I picture a large box with electrodes that is used as treatment along with regular shock therapy sessions. But, it's actually an app that flicks through the music that you have already loaded onto your phone, and it assigns different genres to each station. There's a dial in the middle with eight stations surrounding the dial. Just rotate the dial like a classic iPod, and stop at each station to see what song is playing. There's even static between the stations for a bit of that old-fashioned radio charm.
You can double-tap on the decorative speaker to see the artwork of what songs are playing. The eight songs all play on continuously as you cycle through. So, it's like you're really flipping between radio stations. The only problem I ran into was the lack of fresh songs after the last one played. Most stations will just replay the last song that was playing. Only two or three stations will select a new song.
The music will continue to play in the background after you close out the app. Even if you completely close the app, the music still plays. You have to close the music through the native music app to stop it from playing.
Self Modulation Radio is an iPhone app available for download from the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
