Quirky App Of The Day: The Ultimate No Life Test

November 9, 2011
I would like to believe that I have a life. Yes, it's filled with video games. Yes, it's filled with movies. I also spend a large amount of time watching cartoons and writing. I suppose that to mature people, like parents and other responsible adults, my life seems to have no meaning. Then again, to adolescents and college students, I must lead a charmed life. I tend to side with the latter opinion. So, I'm interested in an app that claims to give The Ultimate No Life Test. Mainly because I like the fact that my life has so little drama and is infused with entertainment. If anyone can decide whether or not an app adequately determines whether or not a user has a life or not, I'm that person.

See the big red button in the screen shots? That's it. The entire app revolves around how many times you tap on that big red button. It's even polite enough to keep track for you. The more often you push the button, the more achievements in Game Center you unlock. So, if you happen to be a fanatic about acquiring points, then by all means, tap that button until your finger falls off. You can even submit your scores for the leader board. I've never actually obtained any respectable ranking on leader boards before, so I had a warm, fuzzy moment of accomplishment during this game. There is a catch to the game, however. How can there be a legitimate catch to a test of how effectively you can waste your time on an app? Well, I guess it taps into some people's obsessive need to meet all challenges placed before them. When I see an app that asks me to push a red button over 1,000,000 times for 100 points as an achievement, I can walk away from it. I can say, "I'd rather watch a few episodes of 'The IT Crowd' or 'Bleach.'" Maybe there are enough perfectionists out there that can't pick up a game and stop when it starts becoming a ridiculous investment of time. They have to finish it. So, when the app restarts the counter every time the app closes (that would be the catch), that would be my cue to give up while I'm still young. Others might not be that easily deterred. The Ultimate No Life Test is a universal app available in the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
