Sports Fans Will Enjoy New PlayUp App For iPhone

November 7, 2011
PlayUp has recently announced the launch of the first mobile social network enabling sports fans to follow their choice of thousands of live games in real time. Plus, the PlayUp - Where Sport Gets Social app offers fans one place to chat about those games that interest them the most with anyone around the world. Sports fans love discussing their favorite team’s latest conquest or loss with friends and other fans. Now, PlayUp lets you do this seamlessly no matter the sport. The free app includes real-time scoring and stats, along with the option to either join existing chats about a particular game or the option to create private rooms for your personal use. According to Jonathan Press, CEO of PlayUp USA:
“There is no better platform for social interactivity than sports, but until now the industry has been unable to marry live sports and social. Fans share their comments at games, tailgate parties, watercoolers, and on sports talk radio. We’ll make it easier. Now they have the opportunity to tell the world or select groups of friends instantly and in the palm of their hand. No need to be alone on the couch anymore watching the game.”
For example, during yesterday’s Giants/Patriots NFL game, I visited a public PlayUp chatroom to discuss the game with other fans of each team. However, I also created a private room. Here, four of my college buddies and I discussed the game too. In this room, not only did we discuss how poor our Patriots are playing this year, but we also used the opportunity to catch each of us up on our family and personal lives as well. In other words, PlayUp gave five people across two continents the opportunity to meet up online to discuss a game in Massachusetts, all for free. Very cool, don’t you think? Still, the app is only as good as the number of people using the service. As such, I was very underwhelmed on Saturday during college football action. For example, even though the LSU-Alabama game was considered the "game of the century," very few people were actually discussing it via the PlayUp app. By Sunday, however, the chat rooms were filled during NFL games. Therefore, PlayUp's success is definitely tied to the number of customers using the app at a given time. Currently, according to Press, PlayUp has 75,000 active users. First launched to help fans chat about Australian Rules Football, the PlayUp app current supports scoring and stats for every NFL, college football, NHL, MLB and MLS game, plus soccer and cricket around the world. The app will also include full coverage of the NBA once the league’s labor issues are resolved. Founded in 2007 by Australian entrepreneurs Luke Bunbury and George Tomeski, PlayUp is focused on developing mobile-based sports/social gaming applications. In 2010, PlayUp games were distributed in more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. In 2011, PlayUp raised $50 million to build out its global vision for a mobile-based social network dedicated to live sports. The resulting PlayUp social network is considered the first real-time, mass-market social gaming platform enabling users globally to interact via their mobile devices during live games. PlayUp is a must-have app for anyone that loves following sports. As such, PlayUp - Where Sport Gets Social comes highly recommended. Check it out today in the App Store.
