The iOS And Android Platforms Are Taking Over The Majority Of The Mobile Gaming Market

It may come as no shock to you that the iOS and Android platforms are growing in the gaming sector more and more everyday. We are not just talking about iOS and Android as gaming platforms. We're now talking in terms of the all important bottom line.
According to the latest information from Flurry and NPD, 58 percent of all mobile gaming revenue comes straight from Apple and Google's mobile platforms, according to the 2011 numbers thus far. That is a large increase from iOS's 5 percent share in 2008 and 19 percent in 2009. In those same years Sony and Nintendo's portable platforms owned 81 percent of the revenue proving that habits of comsumers can and will change quickly.
I personally like to attribute the increase to the fact that so many people own a smartphone now and don't want to carry around two devices. Also both platforms have made gaming less of a hardcore affair and more of a casual one, much like Nintendo's Wii did for consoles a few years ago.
