Twitter iOS Chief Quits

November 7, 2011
Twitter’s iOS developer Loren Brichter has announced via a personal tweet that he is no longer with the company. The lead developer for Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for iPad worked his last day at the tech company on Friday, November 4. According to the tweet, Philadelphia-based Brichter states:
Today was my last day at Twitter. Taking some time to figure out what’s next. Really proud of the way the team has grown.
Twitter purchased Brichter’s atebits company in April 2010. At the time, there was no official Twitter app for iOS. However, atebits offered the popular Tweetie app for iPhone. After the atebits acquisition, Twitter and Brichter launched a newer version of Tweetie and rebranded it the official Twitter app. A later version update made the app universal. In January 2010, Twitter announced it had purchased atebits’ desktop version of Tweetie, changing the name to Twitter for Mac. Although Brichter has not announced his future plans, we’re pretty confident it will have something to do with mobile computing and social networking. How this news will affect Twitter is also unknown. We’ll keep you updated. Twitter for iOS and Twitter for OS X are available in the App Store and Mac App Store, respectively.
