Alarm : Clock Gains Much-Needed Update

Last month, we introduced readers to Alarm : Clock, the latest app from AppAdvice favorite Lifelike Apps. Regrettably, we found Alarm : Clock Version 1.0 less than exciting, saying it “left us wet.” As such, we recommended avoiding the app until it got better. Thankfully, a recent update has improved the iPad app substantially, meriting it a second look. First released on November 11, Alarm : Clock combines a customizable clock with a weather forecaster. At the time, we concluded the app tried too hard to provide the “realism and customization options” its creators intended. As such, we felt the end product was overcomplicated. Improvements Much has been corrected with the app’s first significant update, including the following. The weather forecast looks better now in portrait view. Originally, we felt the forecast was much too small next to the clock in this format. Now, the icons are bigger, which is a noticeable improvement. Still, according to Lifelike Apps’ Dotan Saguy, Alarm : Clock was never intended to be used in portrait mode, even though it is an available option. In other words, stick with landscape mode, which looks a lot better. Second, Alarm : Clock now includes 45 different clock skins with more coming in future updates. This is an improvement over the 22 skins that came with the app’s original version. While many of the weaker styles remain (Cardboard clock, Born in the USA), the additional skins more than make up for the occasional blunder. Worth mentioning Finally, Saguy concludes Alarm : Clock’s most important feature is one we overlooked in our original post – clock customization. On this, we agree, as we should have discussed the feature more fully on our last go-around. The clock customization tool lets users create a unique timepiece using a combination of different clock styles, background textures and the like. This tool is easy-to-use and functional. In fact, we believe it is the only clock app that has this type of ability. Best of all, users are now able to save customized clocks without first making an in-app purchase. Summary Alarm : Clock is significantly better than its original release thanks to its latest update. As such, it (finally) comes recommended. Download it today in the App Store.
