Holiday Traditions: Trim The Tree, Bake Some Cookies, Kill Some Zombies, Win a Copy
Zombie Bash : Xmas Attack ($0.99) by Mention Mobile is a fast and frantic arcade shooter that pits Ol’ Saint Nick against an invasion of present-hungry zombies. Get in the mood for the holidays while satisfying your desire to kill the undead with this seasonal app, on sale until Christmas.
The point of the game is to kill the incoming zombies as they climb the walls of unsuspecting suburban houses. The walking dead are not walking in this game. They scurry up the sides of houses while Santa splatters their brains with his candy cane gun. If a zombie manages to avoid the cinnamon-flavored bullets and makes it to the roof, he will gobble up the protective present barrier. Once there is a hole in the present barrier, Santa is exposed to danger and a lucky zombie may just find his way to the jolly fella’s brains. If too many presents go missing, the game ends.
There are varying levels, represented by different houses, but it is an endless-play type of game. Players can’t access levels or houses from a menu. The game starts with the first house and continues onto new ones until it ends. Each house increases the level of difficulty. There are three different zombies. The Scrambler has medium speed and medium strength. The Gnasher is fast, but weak. The Galute is slow and lumbering, but takes longer to put down.
Playing on an iPhone 3GS, there was a bit of lag in the gameplay, causing it to be frustrating at times. It would confuse the movement and I couldn’t tell if I had killed a zombie or not. This issue may not be present with any other model of iPhone or the iPod touch.
This game is mindless fun, which is good since zombies are after your brains. Although it has an annoying lag on the iPhone 3GS, it is definitely an entertaining way to get into the holiday spirit. For $0.99, it is worth it, even with the gameplay issue. Pick it up in the App Store while it is on sale.
