Find Your Next Coding Or Designing Gig With AuthenticJobs

December 5, 2011

AuthenticJobs (Free) by Authentic Jobs, Inc. is an app for finding jobs in the programming and UI design industry.

In the current economy, for those that may be out of a job at the moment, it can be tough to get back on your feet. Luckily, if you know anything about coding and designing, then you may have more opportunities available to you, but the problem is finding them. AuthenticJobs is an app that will help you do this, in a beautiful and slick package to boot.

There is no account required to use AuthenticJobs, so once you open the app, you’re immediately taken to the core. The app has four different tabs that you can view: Jobs, Companies, Locations, and Favorites.

In the Jobs screen, you will have a full list of job listings. The list button in the top left allows you to filter out the listings to a specific category: All Jobs, UI Design, Front-end Development, Back-end Development, App Development, Information Architecture, Content Strategy, Management, and Miscellany. When you have a category selected, you can also filter out the job postings with four different types: Full-time, Contract, Freelance, and Internship (each with it’s own unique color). By default, all of these job types will be selected; to uncheck one, just tap on it.

There are many companies that have job postings in AuthenticJobs – if you are looking for a specific company, then go on over to the Companies tab. All of the listings are sorted alphabetically, and you can scroll on the letters on the right side to quickly jump to a specific letter. Tapping on a company name will allow you to view the current job postings, as well as where they are located. Tapping on the arrow on the company name will take you to their website, which is helpful if you want to learn more about that company before you apply for a job with them (always a good idea).

Locations will allow you to see your current location on the map (as a blue dot), and any job postings as a red pin. You can pinch in and out of the map to increase or decrease the radius, which will be reflected in the bar at the top. To view the jobs around your area, you can just tap on “View Jobs.”

In any of the screens, tapping on a job posting will show you the company (tap the arrow to view their website), location, and details regarding the job posting. At the bottom of a listing, you have the option to apply for the job (it opens up the in-app browser), or add it to your Favorites. A button at the top (with the icon representing “Share” usually) allows you to apply, email the posting, visit the company website, and send a tweet about the job.

Any jobs that you save in your Favorites are accessible through the Favorites tab. This is a good way to keep track of possible jobs you’re interested in and to apply to them later on.

On all screens, you can search for specific keywords with the built-in Search function (represented by the magnifying glass). The app also utilizes the pull-to-refresh mechanic to get new jobs in. If a posting is new, you’ll be notified with a little orange “NEW” tag on it.

AuthenticJobs is a fast and sleek little app that will help those that are qualified for this type of work find what they need. My only problem is with the buttons in the app that seem to replicate functions that are already there, such as visiting company websites, and applying (there are two ways to do this). Either replacing the duplicated functions with other options or deleting them would make it a bit more efficient, but it’s not a major problem, just a small nitpick I have.

I found the app to be well designed and intuitive, for the most part. If you are qualified for these types of jobs, then AuthenticJobs is a must-have for your current or future job search.

Give it a try and let us know what you think of it in the comments!
