Dragon Shout - A Skyrim Companion App

December 14, 2011

Dragon Shout (Free) by XiD Labs is a companion app for Bethesda’s recently released RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The app allows users to keep track of important areas, events, and items in the game.

If you play Skyrim, and I’m sure you do if you’re reading this article, then you know how frustrating it can be to find a merchant to offload your goods. Merchants all have a limited amount of gold and there are a lot of monsters to loot, people to pickpocket, and houses to rob.

Early on in my game, I ended up with more loot than I could possibly sell, and while I often came across merchants with a decent amount of gold, I didn’t remember where they were. This app would have been very handy in that situation, because you can use its mapping feature to mark important spots on the map.

You aren’t limited to just merchants, either. You can keep track of quest locations, battles, or simply places where you found something neat. With a detailed record, you can share important information later with friends or fellow players on the Internet.

Also, if you’re the type of gamer that likes to document all of your achievements, this is a must have app. Get your friends to download it too, and then you can find out who the best Dovahkiin is. I used the app to mark the location of all my fences, so I can easily offload my stolen goods. They’ve got quite a bit of cash after the culmination of the thieves guild quests.

One thing I wish I had done before starting Skyrim was to find out about all of the buggy quests, such as Blood on the Ice and the whole Hjeren debacle. With a resource like this app to make notes of such locations and quests, I could have prevented those issues from popping up in my game.

With a Dragon Shout account, you can access your data on all of your iOS devices with no problem. You can place markers anywhere on the map, and make detailed notes to go along with them. This is a barebones app at the moment, but it’s still a great resource to use while playing. You certainly can’t beat the price (it's completely free).

In the future, the developer plans to add a map with all the locations in the game, a searchable website to see community markers, and an integrated chat function. I am excited for the version of the app that has all of these features, because they will truly make for a richer Skyrim experience.
