intelli-Diet App | Weight Loss App ($3.99) by Barracuda Partners, LLC is a great app for the beginning of 2012. After the holidays, many New Year’s resolutions involve shedding a few extra pounds; intelli-Diet is here to help.
This app goes beyond simple calorie counting and helps users create a well-balanced diet of whole, natural foods, based on their preferences. Similar to a dietician, intelli-Diet plans daily meals with exactly what foods and what quantities to eat.
The app requires a little setup when first used. Users must enter their information such as weight, height, date of birth, gender, etc. Intelli-Diet then calculates their Body Mass Index (BMI) and lets them know where they are on the scale (e.g., underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese).
Users also set their target weight and the app will calculate the target weight BMI. Intelli-Diet projects an approximate date for when users will reach their target weight. This depends on the level of exercise selected. Users must also enter a wide variety of diet preferences. They select their food preferences from the five categories: protein, carbs, fat, fruit, and veggies. Diet plans will only include foods selected in the food preferences, these can be changed at any time through the settings tab.
Intelli-Diet creates a daily food plan and a weekly food plan for users. The meal plans include five meals: breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. Users enter times for each meal based on their schedules and intelli-Diet will remind them to eat at the time of each meal (these reminders can be turned off at any time).
Meal plans are highly flexible. Individual items can be changed by tapping on the food item and selecting an alternate. Users can also refresh each meal or the whole day to see different food options. The quantity of each food is also displayed along with each item. After users eat the food, they can check off the item on the daily plan. Meal plans can be emailed through the app.
The kitchen tab allows users to modify meal plans based on what foods they have available. Unavailable foods are shown in the shopping list, which can be emailed for grocery trips. Finally, the weight tab serves as a weight loss tracker. Users can add their weight along with their diet info and see their progress in a chart or table view.
