Hide Your Pictures From Prying Eyes With My Secret Folder Pro

December 20, 2011

My Secret Folder Pro - Hide Your Secrets ($0.99) by SSA Mobile LLC is an app that allows you to hide photos with several layers of protection.

I’m not sure what photographs people have on their phones that would warrant more protection than a general passcode provides. But if you have photos that need to be SUPER secure and away from prying eyes, this app is the way to go.

Let’s say you had a wild bachelor party, like the one in "The Hangover." You have a ton of crazy pictures of the night that you want to keep around to show your buddies, but you need to keep the girlfriend from seeing the nefarious things you were up to.

You can drag all of the illicit pictures into My Secret Folder, and I guarantee your girlfriend isn’t going to find them. Let’s assume that your girlfriend heard about your wild night, and then demands to see your phone. She already knows the passcode, or demands that you enter it. So you do, and she goes snooping around.

My Secret Folder has an icon that resembles any other folder on your phone, which obscures it in the first place. Your girlfriend opens all your folders, and when she stumbles on this one, she will find out it’s not a folder at all -- it takes a passcode.

Now she demands to know the passcode to the app. You can give her the real one and let her see all your naughty activities, or you can tell her the fake passcode.

That’s right, there’s a fake passcode in My Secret Folder. When the app is opened with the fake passcode, it makes it look like there’s nothing in the app. So you’re safe. Your girlfriend doesn’t find your photos, and you get to keep them on your phone.

When you enter the proper passcode, you can see all of the photos organized into albums. You can either import photos from your photo library, or take pictures directly from within the app, which will store them there instead of in the normal photo album. You can drag and drop your photos to organize them in any way you want, and other than the security features, the app functions as a regular photo album.

There’s one more security feature that’s automatically enabled. Whenever a passcode is entered, it takes a photo with the front facing camera. The photos are stored and you can access them when the correct passcode is entered. This allows you to find out if anyone has tampered with your phone. It also gives a map location of where the person was, in case your phone has been somewhere without you.

Personally, the basic passcode works for me, because I don’t share it and because if someone did know it, they would be treated to a collection of photos of my cat. Those of you who lead more exciting lives might need an app like this, and for the price, it’s a good deal.
