Physics 21 HD ($0.99) by Batuhan Akalin changes the classic casino game of Blackjack by shuffling physics into the deck. You might be asking, "How on earth do you combine physics with a card game?"

Do you use a slingshot to fire the cards? Does gravity have anything to do with it?

While gravity has to do with a lot of things, its impact on this game is minimal. And no, you don’t use a slingshot (though that would be pretty cool). It’s simply that a card at the top of the screen will wait for you to send it on its way. Touch anywhere on the screen to send it in that direction.

You’ll need the cards to land in one of three buckets at the bottom of the screen in order to score points. For each of the buckets, a counter will show you how many cards have gone into it, as well as how many points you have.

Contrary to popular belief, the goal of blackjack is not to reach a 21 point hand, but rather to have the dealer bust. However, this game is all about not busting yourself. You have to reach 21 in one of the buckets to score points.

A bonus spinner appears if you get a blackjack, which will give you more points for future blackjacks, add time to the countdown, and provide additional dismiss chances. Another bonus is achieved by flicking your cards into spinning coins on their way toward the buckets.

Busting results in losing points, as well as clearing any spinners you may have on the board. So getting a 21 score on top of a 21 score would be quite the feat.

While the game does use physics to land the cards into the buckets, the game could go much further with it. For example, the cards can behave in different ways if they bump the wall or the edge of the buckets, but the cards just about always land where you expect.

An interesting twist on gameplay would be if the cards missed the buckets and fell off the screen (kind of like the skill needed for flicking cards into a hat).

However, this game is still a fun twist on blackjack. A working knowledge of the real game is useful, though not a prerequisite. A helpful walkthrough will have you playing in seconds. And you don’t even need to go to a casino.
