Listen To Your PC From Your iDevice With RemoteSound
RemoteSound - Using the iOS device as PC Speaker ($0.99) by Scienpix, Inc. is the ultimate tool for PC users struggling with lousy audio quality.
Now iDevices can be used to playback audio through the built in speakers or headphone jack. The app requires a compatible computer, which must be running one of the last three generations of Windows (XP, Vista, 7). Unfortunately, Mac OS X isn’t currently supported.
RemoteSound requires users to install a small executable file from their site (the app), and make sure that both devices are on the same wireless network. When setting up the program, it will prompt users for a password; this will be used later on their iDevice to connect. Once you have the program installed on both devices, just search for your computer and tap to connect.
Once connected, its pretty straight forward: users have the option to mute the volume, disconnect, and adjust the buffering. There is also a live sound bar of the audio being played back.
Not too many people have issues with their PC’s audio; either the speakers aren’t that bad or you have the option of plugging in another audio peripheral.
Regardless, there are plenty of circumstances where an app like this would be incredibly useful. For example, lets say you had a desktop on one side of your house with all of your favorite tunes, but you keep your stereo system on the opposite side. You can, in theory, set up an iDevice with that desktop, plug your device into your stereo and now have flawless live streaming of all your favorite tunes.
RemoteSound is a bit of a novelty, assuming that there are a million other ways to accomplish what this app does. But if you can justify it, then for $0.99, it’s a novelty you must have. And if not, there is a free lite option also worth looking into. Be sure to check this out in the App Store.
