Picture Rotation Has Never Been So Addictive
RotaPix (Free) by unexpect3rd is an extremely addictive puzzle game for the iPhone. Players are presented with a jumbled picture and must rotate each piece of the puzzle to recreate the original image.
The pictures are divided into differently sized grids. Players tap on each square to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise. Once all the squares have been rotated correctly to show the image, the screen flashes to let players know they completed the level.
Each level is timed, and if time runs out before the picture is complete, the game is over. Sometimes placing each tile in the image is nearly impossible; fortunately, the game allows five tile clues for each level.
RotaPix currently has four different game modes with a multiplayer mode coming soon. In arcade mode, players complete as many 5x5 grids as possible. Time resets after each level and so do the five clues. The higher the level, the less time players have to complete it. Bonus points are earned for speed and leftover clues.
Speed mode lets players put their skills to the test by solving as many 4x4 pictures as possible. The clock starts at 90 seconds and after each level only 15 seconds are added to the clock. Clues are not replenished in speed mode.
In vault mode, players must solve puzzles with locked pieces. All the normal pieces must be rotated correctly before the closed ones can be unlocked. Vault mode has a slower timer, five clues per level, but is on a 6x6 grid.
The final mode is relax mode. Players are free to complete 6x6 pictures in a pressure free environment.
Currently, RotaPix has Game Center leaderboard support, and achievements are coming soon.
Aside from the entertaining gameplay, RotaPix has an exceptionally clean user interface. The app is very nicely organized and visually appealing. The images are high quality and fun to piece together. The only addition I would suggest is an iPad version.
Overall, I was very impressed with this app. RotaPix is a simple, fun puzzle game that is great for all ages. Put your skills to the test and see how many picture puzzles you can solve.
