Tilt Your Phone To Win In The Retro Puzzler, Tumblox
Tumblox Full ($1.99) by Rat King Entertainment is a retro 3D puzzler for the iPhone. The game features a box, inside of a box, that you must manipulate to make it to the goal and beat the levels. Gameplay is reminiscent of another puzzle game we reviewed, Kunundrum.
The best part about Tumblox is that you can choose how to control the game. You can utilize screen swipes, rotate your iPhone (tilt controls), or just manipulate the game using the on-screen buttons.
The goal is to get the colored boxes on to their corresponding squares by moving them by whatever means you chose from above. But be careful to do so skillfully and quickly as your score depends on it. You want to try your best to pass each level using the fewest moves possible — the less spaces you use, the more stars you will get.
There are other factors that come into play as your progress through the levels: portals and goals with an "x" on them are a couple of these mechanics. Portals, undoubtedly, transport your box to different areas in the big box. Squares with an "x" on them, however, act as a trap for the boxes; for example, once a red box passes over a tiny red square with an "x," it is permanently stuck on that square.
There are about 80 levels to play through in all, and many different difficulty levels. The game is challenging and will keep you entertained from start to finish — if you can even finish all 80 levels, that is.
The retro graphics and arcade music greatly complement gameplay as well. Unfortunately, though, there is no Game Center support which I would like to see change in future updates.
The full version of Tumblox is $1.99 on the App Store for the iPhone only. However, there is a free version that you can try out before purchasing this one to see if you enjoy it.
