We've got great news for anyone who loves classic role-playing games. Square Enix, the company behind the practically legendary Final Fantasy series, has just released Chrono Trigger for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Originally released on the SNES back in 1995 and ported to the Playstation in 2001, the game has since been remade for the Nintendo DS in 2008 (with some DS-exclusive areas). The latter has now been ported and optimized for iOS with "intuitive touch screen controls" and "graphics optimzed (sic) especially for the iPhone/iPod touch." Chrono Trigger sits atop many "best-of" gaming lists and probably will for a long time.
Here is the game's original description from 1995:
The millennium. A portal is opened. The chain of time is broken. A young man is transported into the past, altering the course of history and the outcome of the future. He has to find his way home, but first he must travel to the outer edges of time to repair the world's chronology. On the way he encounters strange friends and foes, utilizes incredible devices and vehicles, and penetrates and neutralizes the fortresses of the past, present, and future. A paradox has been created. If he does not restore the order of time, nothing will ever be the same. He is the one who will become a hero. He is Crono.Chrono Trigger is truly a timeless game and many RPG fans will surely have a blast spending time saving time (literally) with this game's intense story and extra side quests. I will definitely be losing sleep over the next few days. You can pick up Chrono Trigger in all its nostalgic glory in the App Store for $9.99.
