As the pilot of an armed shuttle, players must shoot down enemy ships and rescue free floating astronauts while avoiding collisions, incoming fire and projectile bombs. Virtual joystick and button controls move the shuttle around and allow for fast-tap shooting.

There isn’t much to this game, other than the fact that the 8-bit retro style is recreated perfectly. Even the soundtrack could have been straight out of the 1990s. Players must move, turn and shoot. Fuel and shield structure reduce as the level progresses, but exploded enemy ships and bombs will often offer bonus increases as rewards.

There are eight worlds with four levels in each world. Difficulty increases with each level, adding to the challenge of shooting waves of oncoming enemies without losing a life.

It is hard to believe that Shuttle Scuttle has not made it into the New and Noteworthy section of the App Store. The game’s nostalgic design, pixelated aesthetic and retro soundtrack is like decadent candy for gamers. Pick up this universal game while it’s on sale for $0.99.
