The iMAME Emulator Hits The App Store But Can You Import Your Own ROMs?

If you’re an iDevice owner, and especially a lover of retro arcade games, I’m sure you’ve heard all of the buzz about the iMAME app coming to iOS. iMAME is an app that recreates an arcade system, similar to what the iCade hardware does, and allows you to play certain games on your iDevice, joystick style. The hype is because people claim there is a way to add ROMs to your iDevice without jail breaking it — which would surely cause Apple to quickly remove this app for the App Store, though they haven’t yet — so get the app, quick! Most are surprised it even made it through the approval process to begin with. The iMAME app comes with the following games preinstalled:

• Circus
• Crash
• Fire One
• Hard Hat
• Robot Bowl
• Side Track
• Spectar
• Star Fire
• Targ

  I know these games are not a big deal, but TouchArcade is now claiming a way to import your own choice of ROMs to play in iMAME, though I haven’t tried it myself. It’s also curious that Aemula Oldies S for iPhone, the app that features classic DOS games previously only available on the iPad, also was released today.
