Developer Inserts Marriage Proposal Into A Game

January 5, 2012
It’s hard to think of an original way for a man to propose marriage to a woman. The movies always portray some sort of elaborate plan; violins playing a romantic song at a restaurant, showing up on the JumboTron at a ball game, and writing the proposal in the sky are just some examples. But what about something as simple as asking through a video game? That’s just what a gamer named Joe decided to do. He and his girlfriend, Jen, both enjoy playing iOS games (Jen goes for the puzzle games). So when Joe issued a request for a developer to incorporate his proposal into one of their games, William Thurston accepted the challenge. Thurston, creator of the physics-based game Foozle, inserted the proposal into a copy of the game: “Jen, I love you with all my heart and nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” A big “yes” button was below it. His only request was that Joe record the event (you can see the video here). Joe asked Jen to give the game a try, though she made him wait a moment while she finished reading an article. Finally getting into the game, she was totally surprised when she encountered the proposal. Of course she said “yes.” The only tricky part about the proposal? Joe hoped Jen could make it past level seven. To celebrate Joe and Jen’s engagement, Foozle is free for a limited time. Grab it while you can!
