Heart Pro Receives Significant Update

January 18, 2012
With its great glut of fun-centric apps, it is easy to forget that the iPad can also be a powerful educational tool, one that can even help save lives. The developer, 3D4Medical, attempts to remind users of the iPad's tremendous teaching potential with its line of fitness and medical apps. This includes their popular NOVA series; the apps in this series allow users to explore photo realistic 3D models of the human anatomy through a combination of sound bites, pen markings, pin media, and quizzes. Heart Pro, one of the company's most popular apps, has recently received a major update (version 3.0) with hundreds of improvements and 10 new free animations. Among other things, the latest version features a completely rebuilt interface, as well as enhanced ways to dissect the heart, mark it up, and share your findings. Seeing is believing, so here is a video of the app in action: I am not a medical professional, but I was impressed by the app's vivid detail and abundance of features. I have never found the human heart as fascinating as I did, while using this app. It is not inexpensive, but it struck me as a wonderful tool for both laypeople, and those in the medical community. It is possible, however, that I am just easy to impress. If you are a medical student or professional, your input and insight is invited. If you have used the latest version of this app, please comment below with your praise, gripes, and suggestions. I know the developer would welcome them. Heart Pro III is available in the App Store now for $17.99.
