Entertaining Challenge Found In Enscripted
Enscripted ($0.99) by Duncan A Campbell will test both your puzzle and movie trivia skills in a cinematic take on the classic cipher puzzle.
A movie quote, along with the movie’s title will be shown, but the letters will be encrypted. Your job is to find out what each letter should really be by substituting different letters.
Select one letter from the keyboard and then select the letter you’d like to replace it with. The puzzle will then swap out the letters, leaving you to make your next guess.
There is no direction about how to swap out the letters, which I kind of liked, yet I found off-putting at the same time.
Yes, this is a puzzle game, so having the player discover the method for playing would be thematic with the game. On the other hand, the puzzles are certainly thought-intensive as it is, without requiring any further thinking.
The app starts you with seven quotes at first, but you will gain access to a new one each day. Completed puzzles show in the queue with a big “thumbs up” icon, while partially completed puzzles will show how long you’ve already spent on them.
Game Center integration means you get to show off how smart you are.
One piece of advice, which you can either take or leave (or say, “Duh, Sean, everybody knows that!”) is to look for different articles (a, an, the) or prepositions (on, at, in).
Being able to figure out these smaller words will help, especially if other words contain the same letters.
The minimalist interface and graphics work for this app. Players may feel intimidated by playing such a game, but it really is a fun experience once you get into it.
Plus, once you finish the puzzle, you can revel in the entertaining movie quote you just revealed.
