To-do - Task Manager Is A Simple And Beautiful Way To Organize Tasks, Plus A Chance To Win
To-do - Task manager ($1.99) by Kenny Walker is a beautiful and simple task app for your iPhone.
I’m sure that there are plenty of todo apps out there already, but if you haven’t found one that works for you, here’s another alternative.
When you launch the app, you’re greeted with a beautiful wooden background. On top of the wood is a textured white area, which I’m guessing represents paper. This will display the Categories, which the app already has four default ones all set for you: Today, Work, Home, and Groceries. If you choose to create new categories, just tap on the “+” button and give your category a name. Once you tap on “Done,” it will be added to the default Category list.
The other button on the top of the screen shows a pen, and it will allow you to delete or reorder the categories. You can also swipe on an item to delete it at any time. I’m not sure that the pen was the best choice to use as the icon, though, since most people (like me) will associate that with “compose” or “create new.” It would have been better to perhaps use a list icon, or even just use the word “Edit” instead.
At the bottom of the app, there are three tabs that you can navigate between: Categories/Lists, Scheduled, and Complete. The Categories/Lists is the default view, Scheduled will have any items with a due date and time, and Completed will show finished tasks. While navigating between these three screens, I love the animation that is used, because it reminds me of the good old days of Tweetie on iPhone. It’s that small slider that moves to indicate which view you’re currently on. It’s definitely a nice finishing touch to a great interface.
To start adding tasks, select the category you want to add a task in, and tap the + button. Give the task a name, as well as an optional due date and reminder notification. It’s simple and fast, which is what task management apps should be. Tasks will show up in the list, and the due date and time are displayed underneath the task title. When you complete a task, just tap on the checkbox, and it will move to the Completed section.
The Completed section serves as an archive of all of your finished tasks. However, if you prefer to clean it out every now and then, you can tap on the trash can to clear it.
While I found the app to be a pleasure to use with the simplicity and clean interface, there is one thing that I hope that the developer adds in the future – a syncing/backup solution. Currently, there is no way to have your data intact if you move over to a new device or use multiple devices. Perhaps having iCloud or Dropbox to backup task data can be added in the future – it would certainly be nice to have around.
I liked the app overall, but until there’s a syncing solution, it’s not the app for me to use on a daily basis. However, for some people, it could work, especially when you have a chance to get a copy for free!
