Tap Away To Zpulse
Zpulse ($0.99) by Ludiz will have you tapping away at multi-colored discs to the tune of techno music. It’s kind of like DanceDance Revolution meets Bejeweled.
Each disc will light up a different color, with each color filling the disc at its own pace. Once the disc is filled, the color will spin for a short time until it repeats the process.
But after a few cycles, the disc will eventually show a triangle in the middle, meaning that it's inactive. It may activate later, but at the moment, your concern should be on the other discs that are active.
The levels are divided into different sections called "beat phases." Once the song hits a different rhythm, the new beat phase begins. The gravity reverses, meaning the discs will either switch to the top or bottom.
The penalty for touching a disc before it is ready is having another disc drop down. All it takes is a few mistakes and it's game over. Paying attention to the beat of the music will help you find the discs that are ready to go, but that's only if you happen to be looking in the right place at the right time.
Precise timing is the key to doing well with this game. Perhaps that's why I didn't last too long.
It's the first time I actually played an iPhone game better in the original size rather than magnified on the iPad. With so much happening all at once, a smaller screen makes keeping track of the changing discs much easier.
I wanted to like this game, but it is really hard to achieve success. Within a minute, my screen was filled with inactive discs, ending the game all too quickly. Survival mode wasn't much better.
I would highly recommend trying the lite version first to see if this game matches your beat.
