I have a friend who is terribly afraid of ants. He stomps his feet whenever he walks anywhere near an ant hill. He can't stand the sight of them. I'm not a big fan of them either, but I'm nowhere near as freaky about the whole stomping thing as he is. Pocket Ants reminds me of him because this game might put him into a coma of sorts. Especially when they come out of their hill in huge masses.
I tried to figure out the point of the game, but even the instructions are pretty vague. Basically, you use the various tools to feed or torture the ants. It makes me feel like a 10-year-old with a magnifying glass and no conscience. There is actually a magnifying glass in the app that you can use. It makes a sizzling noise when you scorch the ants. Poor little boogers never saw it coming. If you feel like being a benevolent deity over your ants, you can feed them. There are strawberries or watermelon slices that you can drop for them. However, you can squish them to death if the fruit lands on them. Yeah, that's a sad way to go.
There are other things such as a storm, stones and tiny landmines to torture your ants with. My problem is that I have such a guilty conscience that I can't kill them for fun. It's a conundrum that really affects my life. I can't enjoy video games because when I die, I feel personally responsible for the character. I feel like I let the character down by letting them perish. It's just a bunch of pixels on the screen. I know that. Everyone knows that. The ants aren't real. I'm not actually sending any little bugs to buggy heaven, but it bothers me to rain pain and destruction upon a silly app of ants for no apparent reason. Have at it, by all means. Try out the app and take it for a test run. The ants are pretty realistic looking. I, in the meantime, will go adjust my dosage since it's apparently not strong enough to let me live a normal life free of unnecessary guilt.
