Valve's Steam Client Goes Mobile

January 26, 2012

Valve, who is best known for hit franchises such as Half-Life and Portal, has finally released Steam for iPhone.

While you won’t be able to play your library of games on your mobile device, you will be able to socialize with the Steam community, right from your iPhone. From the App Store description:

With the free Steam app for iOS, you can participate in the Steam community wherever you go. Chat with your Steam friends, browse community groups and user profiles, read the latest gaming news and stay up to date on unbeatable Steam sales.

However, the app is currently in a “closed beta” so I do not have a way to try the app out fully. If you are lucky enough to get a beta code to access Steam Mobile, then you’re in for a treat.

With the current screenshots, the app seems to allow users to open a game’s page to look at a detailed description, screenshots, and even add it to your Wish List or Steam Cart. In the Catalog area, you can view different sale areas, including Featured, New, Popular, and Specials. To access other areas of the app, just use that sidebar menu (originally from Facebook, it seems every app is starting to use it).

Valve’s Steam Mobile is available for iOS and Android.
