Fast-Paced Word Games Have Never Been This Fun
Mumble Jumble SE ($0.99) by Stacey Bennett is a fast-paced new word game for iDevices. Players attempt to unscramble as many five-letter words as they can in a limited time frame.
Mumble Jumble is an extremely simple game. Players choose from one of two game modes, Endless or Blitz, and then unscramble five-letter words as fast as they can. The letters appear and users tap on each letter in order to spell the word correctly. Once the five letters have been arranged, the app either accepts the new word as a real word, or shakes it and users start again from the beginning.
In Endless mode, players have 20 seconds to unscramble each word. If they cannot solve the word before time runs out, the game ends. In Blitz mode, players are given three minutes to unscramble as many words as possible. Both game modes include skip options where users can skip up to three words that they are having difficulty solving.
Points are awarded for each word solved, and saved to the high scores. High scores for the device are displayed from the start screen, and users can access worldwide leaderboards in Game Center.
I found Mumble Jumble to be more entertaining than I first expected. Despite the fact that I am atrocious at unscrambling words, Mumble Jumble was still fun. It was easy enough that I could unscramble some words, but also hard enough to remain a challenge. The five-letter word limit is great; there are plenty of words to choose from, some easy and some hard. For this reason I would recommend this game to users of all ages.
Mumble Jumble is a game with the potential for lots of expansion. I recommend that the developers add additional six-letter and seven-letter categories for more challenging gameplay. A four-letter category could also be created to appeal to younger players.
As it is, Mumble Jumble is a great new game for iOS devices. I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of gameplay and addictive nature of the game. Once I picked it up, it was hard to put down (even to write this review)! I highly recommend this app to those looking for a fun word game.
