Handwrite Emails With ArtMail On Your iPad
ArtMail (Free) by RoninWen brings a new element to emails, handwriting. This simple iPad app allows users to create handwritten one page emails.
Yes, there are numerous drawing apps in the App Store; many of which users can manipulate to send “handwritten” emails, but ArtMail is different. This difference stems primarily from the brush style. Most drawing apps use a smooth, solid brush that is obviously computer generated and too perfect to be real. ArtMail, however, uses a brush style similar to a fountain pen, delivering calligraphic quality pen strokes.
In most drawing apps things are drawn and written in actual size, there aren’t any scaling options. ArtMail has a built-in scaling feature that shrinks all text written to fit in a letter format. Users can write a word that fills up the entire screen and it will be shrunk to the same size as all the other words. This scaling feature places the new word next to the previous word written. Users can change the end location by moving the red cursor around the screen. This scaling feature is especially useful when writing characters in languages that use more complex letters, like Chinese and Japanese.
ArtMail is a one-function app, aside from handwriting, there is very little that can be done. The few settings in the app allow users to modify brush color, change the scale size, and choose a background for the letter. After completion, letters can be emailed or tweeted.
The only issue I had with ArtMail was the menu appearance. For the sake of aesthetics, the developer made the settings menu transparent. This may not sound like a problem, however the transparency, combined with writing on a background, can make it very hard to read menu items. This is an easy fix that should come in future updates.
Overall, ArtMail is a simple app for adding that personal touch to emails. Next time you’re sending an email to a special someone, consider adding your own personal flair with ArtMail.
