Jailbreak Only: Use GrayPix To Convert Your Images To Grayscale

February 1, 2012
Shooting quality photos on your iPhone isn't tough. With iOS 5, you even get the option to crop. rotate, and auto-enhance your photos within the built-in Photos app. Sadly, it still leaves much to be desired. With the popularity of photo editing apps, one would think that Apple would have included even the simplest of photo filters like sepia or grayscale in the Photos app. Thankfully, for the latter, there's a tweak for that. Graypix is a simple, but effective, tweak. It does nothing more than suck the color out of a picture in your Camera Roll. Once installed, there are no settings to configure. To use Graypix, just open the stock Photos app. Choose a picture, tap the icon on the bottom left corner, and select the new "Convert to Grayscale" option. After a few moments, your newly decolorized picture will be saved to your Camera Roll. Simple. As you can see, the results aren't half bad. I'm glad that a duplicate image is saved, instead of the original picture being permanently modified. Obviously, you need a jailbroken iDevice in order to use Graypix, which is free in Cydia. Be sure to let us know how you like it!
