Newsy Update Brings Your News Offline

Newsy Update Brings Your News Offline

February 17, 2012
The award winning news analyzer app, Newsy for iPad (FREE), by Media Convergence Group, received an update recently. The company also launched their popular app for Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet. The update brings with it some bug fixes, and for some, an interesting new feature. If you are unfamiliar with previous versions of Newsy, the app provides videos of the latest news stories from around the world, all in short, mobile-friendly chunks. The news stories are conveniently organized into categories for easier navigation. The key new feature introduced with the release of version 3.2 is the fantastic "Watch Offline." This feature allows you to, as the name suggests, download the latest news stories for viewing later in the day when you may not have an available Internet connection. Newsy is now the only news app available in the App Store that provides the option for offline viewing. As someone that commutes three hours a day on a train that provides very little data signal and no Wi-Fi, this is a real godsend. Media Convergence Group also included “enhanced Airplay features." While it's not clear what these enhancements are specifically, it's still nice to have the option to view your news stories on a big screen should the need arise, so any improvements here are welcome. The iPhone specific version of Newsy has also received an update. This is, however, a much smaller update. The move to version 1.8 provides an improved interface only, so nothing huge on this front though its clear the main focus of the app is for tablet use. Is this the future of news consumption? Will the new offline viewing mode change the way you consume your daily dose of news?
