Edit PDF Documents On The Go With iAnnotate PDF
iAnnotate PDF ($9.99) by Aji, LLC is a convenient productivity app, designed to allow users to read and mark PDF documents on the go. The app eliminates the need to carry around papers and notebooks; instead PDF documents can be accessed and annotated on the iPad. The new 2.0 version promises many additional features that make iAnnotate even more useful than before.
The app’s homepage is called the Library. Here users can view all the PDF documents currently accessible. Users can import new documents through the connectivity tab on the left side of the screen. IAnnotate currently supports importing from Dropbox, WebDAV, webpages, or through iTunes file sharing. Documents that have been imported through these means are shown in folders so users can easily find them.
After downloading, the app comes preloaded with a quick reference guide. This explains many of the app's features and how to access them. Like most PDF editing apps, iAnnotate has an abundance of features. To familiarize themselves with the tools and features, users should take five minutes to read the Quick Reference Guide before using iAnnotate.
This app allows users to highlight, underline, bookmark, write on, and edit pages in PDF documents. Users access these features from the toolbar(s) located on the right side of the screen. IAnnotate has over 80 annotating tools, many more than the average user will need. Conveniently, the toolbars are customizable, so user can create toolbars for their specific needs. The app also has standard toolbars for different uses. Users can have multiple toolbars, both standard and customized. Only one toolbar is shown at a time, but by swiping toward the center of the screen from the displayed toolbar, users can scroll through their toolbars. I highly recommend customizing the side toolbar(s) to only contain the features you will use before beginning to use the app.
IAnnotate utilizes a tab system to allow users to have more than one PDF document open at a time. While editing a document the tabs are hidden, but can be accessed by tapping around the top of the screen. On the left side of the screen the users can view all the pages in their document and jump around, a faster option than traditional scrolling.
I found iAnnotate to be very intuitive and easy to use, especially after using the Quick Reference Guide. The app has tons of useful features and tools to effectively annotate any document. Although iAnnotate does come at a high price ($9.99), if you use PDF documents regularly it may be a good investment for you.
