Blocky Needs Your Help In Shape O Block HD
Shape O Block HD ($0.99) by Vijaya Lakshmi has you using your wits to guide Blocky through challenging levels. The cartoon-like graphics and overall level design are reminiscent of the classic Nintendo game The Adventures of Lolo.
The main difference, however, is that Blocky isn't restricted to being one shape.
The directions for the game are so simple that they're not really needed: reaching the destination (a multi colored portal) is your objective, and swipe to move Blocky. Even just jumping into the game, you'll get a feel for what needs to be done.
Each level is shown through a bird's-eye view, revealing the labyrinthine layout. The blobs of color placed throughout will change Blocky into that color. The shape spaces will change her to that shape.
Becoming the right shape or color is important because there are doors that only allow certain colors or shapes to pass through them. Just because you're a square doesn't mean you can go through the blue square only door.
With a lack of enemies or a timer, the only adversary in this game is the level's complexity. The penalty for missing a step or going in the wrong direction is to backtrack and do it again.
Moving Blocky is somewhat tedious, considering you have to swipe to move her block by block. Being able to select how far ahead you would like Blocky to move with one single tap would be preferable.
The paid version of this app gets rid of the ads that appear in a banner on the top of the screen. Even with the paid version, there is still an ad asking to download a free app upon startup.
This is definitely a game that looks incredibly easy, but then makes you stop and take a second look at how you're actually going to finish the level.
