Unleash Your Snarky Side With Snark.ly - Purveyors Of Fine Humor
Snark.ly - Purveyors of Fine Humor (Free) by Pike Productions is a new micro social network on the iPhone dedicated to the art of being snarky.
We know the Internet can be full of wit and snark, but what if we had a whole network dedicated to it? That’s pretty much what Snark.ly is, and it’s incredibly awesome.
To use the app, it’s recommended that you create an account, though you can still browse if you don’t. However, if you want to upload your own snarks or do anything fun with the app, you will need an account. Login options include making a new account, or even just using your Facebook. The process is quite painless, really.
If you are in for some laughs, or need some inspiration, I recommend browsing the Popular feed. You’ll see hilarious pictures, along with user captions to go with them. Buttons for Twitter and Facebook allow you to share the particular snark with your friends on those social networks – after all, the more the merrier, right?
You can also add your own caption to an item, as well as view others (perhaps for more inspiration, if you aren’t feeling particularly witty). See a comment that you love? Then you should probably up-vote it as a way of giving that user kudos.
If you’re feeling your own snark coming, then it is time to upload your own. The app allows you to import a photo from your device photo library, or you can snap a new one with the camera. Once you have the photo, then you can enter your caption (up to 100 characters). Being snarky means you get your point out there quickly, so the 100 character limit makes sense.
Since Snark.ly is a social network, you need people to follow and friends to follow you, right? Currently, the app allows you to look at Featured Snarkers and look for any friends on Facebook. There is no way to search for a specific user. However, if you find someone interesting through the Popular view, you can tap on their name to view their profile (see how many people they follow or are being followed by, as well as all of their snarks) and give them a follow. Your friend’s snarks will show up in the Following tab.
Once you start accruing followers, votes, or getting other comments, then this information will appear in the News tab.
Currently, the network of users on Snark.ly is quite small, though I guess that’s a given since the app launched two days ago. The interface is pretty elegant for the most part, though I’m not really sure where the developers are going with the textured linen-looking background that appears in some screens. There definitely needs to be more ways to find people to follow, though, as it is currently pretty limited.
If you are the snarky type, or want to get some quick laughs, then make sure to give Snark.ly a try. Let us know what you think of the app in the comments!
