Take Your Filmmaking To The Next Level With Video Camera
Video Camera ($7.99) by i4software lets you shoot and edit video quickly and seamlessly. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you’ve got the features mastered, you can create beautiful, professional-looking video in minutes.
The developer has provided both a tutorial video and a quick start guide within the app. I’d strongly recommend checking out one or both of them before getting started, because the controls are not necessarily intuitive.
First, you choose film clips from your camera roll or simply start shooting. Zoom in and out while shooting using a slider along the right side of the screen. Turn the LED light on or off, flip the camera to front or back, even while recording. Snap photos while you record film clips. Control the exposure, focus, and white balance by triple-tapping.
You can choose your transitions between clips and edit the length of each clip with just a few taps. Move the clips around until you have them in the order you want; delete or duplicate clips if desired. Add a custom title card and scrolling end credits with your choice of fonts and colors; the app will walk you through creating them to your specifications. Add music from your own library or choose from a selection of music within the app. Adjust the relative volume of the music you’ve added versus the sound that’s already in your film. Even after you’ve saved everything you can always go back and edit it later. Once you have everything the way you want it, render your film and share it via email, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, or CNN.
Video Camera allows 1920x1080, 1280x720, or 640x360 resolutions on supported devices. Now, I didn’t have the equipment to test this, but the app actually allows you to connect and simultaneously record from up to eight different devices! The possibilities for this are endless: catch the action from many different angles at your local sporting event, make your own action movie, film a music video, and lots more.
This app isn’t perfect; it did crash on me occasionally and it was a little laggy at times. It’s a relatively new app; I expect those little bugs to quashed pretty quickly.
Overall, Video Camera is a really nice app for the beginning-to-intermediate videographer, but it’s one of those open-ended apps. It can really allow you to take your filmmaking to the next level and do some incredible things with your iPhone.
