The Dwarves Are Coming To Town In A Hero Academy Update

Following many rumors, Robot Entertainment has finally announced the first content update to their hugely popular multiplayer tactics game Hero Academy (free). The update's main feature is the introduction of a new team, the Dwarves. Along with the Dwarves, Robot Entertainment is bringing us new avatars, a new themed playing field and Game Center support. Game Center integration enables support for achievements and leaderboards. Robot Entertainment has even provided a little background lore for the dwarven team:

The dwarves hail from distant fortresses of stone, seeking wealth and glory through victory at the Hero Academy. Dwarves are extremely crafty and gain improved bonuses from the playfield's premium squares. They are masters of area attacks.

If you have played Hero Academy (if you haven't you're really missing out) you will know that both of the current teams feature unique characters and abilities; it seems the dwarves are no exception. Within their announcement, Robot Entertainment explained a little about what can be expected of their new team:

• Paladin – The Paladin is a devout holy warrior who can heal and revive allies, healing herself in the process.
• Gunner – Ever the sporting gentleman, the Gunner is a shooter who deals high damage to a nearby enemy and does area-of-effect damage at range.
• Grenadier – Cranky and scarred, the Grenadier can lob bombs over enemies for area-of-effect damage.
• Engineer – With her handy tools, the Engineer can shield a single ally or crystal. She also gets a higher bonus from premium squares.
• Annihilator – Wielding his shoulder-mounted rocket launcher, the Annihilator deals heavy damage with area-of-effect knock backs. Direct hits weaken his enemies’ physical defenses.

  The original Hero Academy release featured one free team (The Council) and one premium team (the Dark Elves, activated via an in-app purchase). While you had to pay for the additional team, Robot Entertainment managed to keep them both very balanced. I hope this continues with the introduction of the Dwarves. While it isn't clarified within the announcement, I would expect the Dwarf team will, as with the Dark Elves before them, need to be purchased, but I for one will be snapping this up as soon as they are released on Feb. 22.
