Witness 2.0 Home Alarm System For Mac Gains Face Detection, AppleScript Support And More

February 1, 2012
Witness, a home surveillance system for Mac that uses your computer's FaceTime or iSight camera to alert you when there is any unwanted use of your system, has recently received a major update. In addition to improving the program's motion detection capabilities, developer Oribicule has added several new features, including face detection, multiple camera, and AppleScript support. Witness works in conjunction with the Witness Remote app and can can send push notifications, photos, and videos to your supported iDevices after you've locked your Mac and someone (or something) triggers its motion detection function. You can lock your Mac manually, with Witness' own app dialog. Witness can also automatically lock your Mac (using geo-location) if your iDevice strays too far from your computer. You can set Witness to only be triggered when it detects a human face, which could come in handy if you've got pets, robotic vacuums, etc. Witness 2.0's AppleScript support allows it to run a AppleScript as soon as an alarm is activated or deactivated, meaning you can have your Mac play a sound, load a program, shut down, or anything else you can think of. There are infinite possibilities of what you can do with this, although it may be tough to find a practical one. For more information, visit the Witness website, where you'll find an in-depth FAQ, success stories, and more.
