AppAdvice App Of The Week For March 30, 2012
Every week, our staff will handpick an app from the past seven days that we believe is a must-download for your iPhone or iPad. These apps will always be from various categories, but they are chosen because our own staff members love it and have been using them daily. So here are this week’s picks! Enjoy!
Paper by FiftyThreePaper is a beautiful sketching app for your iPad that reinvents how you think of paper. The app allows you to create your own beautiful notebooks (with a completely customizable cover) with blank canvases for unleashing your creativity upon. The app comes with the basic pen and eraser tools for free, but more can be bought if you need them.
The app itself uses no buttons (with a few exceptions) and relies on natural multitouch gestures instead. There are no settings either, so you can focus on the canvas in front of you.
Paper features an expressive ink engine that optimizes each tool depending on your movements. While this may not work all the time, it’s still impressive. It also generates some of the best line curves we’ve seen.
While not all of us on staff are artists, we are still certainly enjoying our time with Paper by FiftyThree. It combines beauty with useful tools to create a very polished product. Of course, there is room for improvements in future updates, but we still love what we have so far.

Honorable Mentions SnapguideSnapguide is a gorgeous little app for your iPhone that will help you figure out, step-by-step, how to do anything. It’s aimed at those that like to DIY stuff, or need some visual guidance on how to do something. Users can browse through the many guides already submitted by other users, and even create their own by snapping photos and video to help other users. There’s something here for everyone, regardless of what your interests are (there’s cooking, fashion, computers, card tricks, and more).
You can browse through featured guides or explore by popular and recent. If you’re even looking for something specific, you can search through all submitted guides by keyword. It’s incredibly useful if, say, you want to see how to install a new hard drive into a MacBook Pro.
Snapguide is also a social network, so you’ll have to have an account. But having an account allows you to talk with other users, leave comments, and like guides.
Snapguide is useful to learn something new, and it has an exquisite interface to boot. Make sure to download this one today.
