Bioware Classic On Its Way To An iPad Near You

March 23, 2012

Hands up if you remember Baldur’s Gate? Created by Bioware in 1998, Baldur’s Gate is a fantasy RPG set in the Forgotten Realms. This game is a true classic in every sense of the word.

If you didn’t have a chance to experience the joys of the game upon its initial release, or just need another trip to the Forgotten Realms, I may have some good news for you.

Overhaul Games has announced that they will be bringing Baldur’s Gate Enhanced to an iPad near you soon. As the name suggests, the enhanced version looks set to include updated visuals and content to bring Baldur’s Gate kicking and screaming into the 21st century. The game is also being released on the PC, if you were interested in such a thing.

Baldur’s Gate looks quite at home on the iPad.

The iPad port, along with its PC counterpart, will also include the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack and an updated graphics engine from Baldur’s Gate II. It looks like we are going to be very spoiled by this little gem.

The team at IGN were lucky enough to have a hands on with the game. They are optimistic about the project, but advised that at this time, the port is quite literally just Baldur’s Gate running on an iPad. It still features the PC version’s interface, but a representative from the company advised “the technical issues are behind us.”

Baldur’s Gate Enhanced is scheduled for a summer release. I’m really excited to see if this comes together. How about you? Do you think this is something that would interest you?
