Play The Knife Game With No Loss Of Digits In Chop It!!
Chop it!! (Free) by com.childhood doesn’t quite deliver what it advertises, though is entertaining, nonetheless. The game mimics the gangster “knife game,” where a player splays his or her fingers outward on a table, and has to stab a knife between the gaps of each finger.
Obviously, the objective of the game is to finish with all of your digits intact.
Four different modes are available, including: speed, random, time limit, and memory. Each mode shows a snapshot of how to play, and allows you to select how many players there will be (you can actually go as high as you want).
Once it starts, you’ll need to tap the screen on one of the numbered spaces between the fingers to jab it (with a mosquito, apparently). Jab in the wrong order, and you get a fail. Hitting the hand results in a big bug bite and then a fail.
I think the spirit of the game is captured, though the aesthetics are off.
For example, everything about this app screams, “knife!” The main menu shows one, the icon shows one, and there is even a screenshot of a knife in the game on the App Store site. Yet during play, it is a large mosquito that is used for jabbing, making no mention of the knife (kind of like Chekov’s gun, but that’s another story).
I was expecting an experience similar to the grotesque Slice HD app, where you would actually have to place your hand on the screen and then jab around that (though I guess the multitouch wouldn’t work right). Even just showing an actual knife would have met my expectations.
Seeing a giant mosquito makes it look as if the developer wanted a gritty experience (which, a knife game would certainly be), but then decided to make it more mild with the addition of the mosquito.
The app is still a fun experience, regardless. It could certainly make a good party game. The spirit of the knife game is present in the gameplay, even if it’s just a mosquito you need to worry about hurting you.
