Go Into The Car Repair Business In Fix-it-up 80s: Meet Kate’s Parents HD

March 24, 2012

Fix-it-up 80s: Meet Kate’s Parents HD (Free) by G5 Entertainment is a car-themed time management game. Time management is a genre that I’ve gotten tired of lately, because there are so many mediocre games out there that all have the same Diner Dash style gameplay.

I was pleasantly surprised with Fix-it-up 80s though; it’s actually a fairly complex time management game with great graphics, engaging gameplay, and a fun car repair theme.

Kate is the star of her own series of games, so this takes place before other games like Fix-it-up: Kate’s Adventure and Fix-it-up: World Tour, both of which focus on car repair businesses. I’d never played one of Kate’s games, so Fix-it-up 80s was entirely new to me, and fixing up cars was a welcome change from running spas and serving up food.

The goal is to run a series of car lots, turning them from destitute businesses into thriving retail outlets. To do this, you will buy cars from customers, and then fix them up with repairs, paint, and bodywork.

You can buy junk cars for a small amount of cash, and then perform several of the above upgrades, each of which adds additional value to a car. Selling the car will net you plenty of profit, which is used to hire new employees, buy additional cars, upgrade buildings, and fund spare parts.

There are also a series of objectives to complete in each level, such as earning a certain amount of money or buying a set number of cars. Fulfilling these objectives is how you end a level, and you must do it within the set time limit if you want to earn a gold score. If you take too long, you’ll earn a silver score instead.

Some cars will be overpriced, while some will be underpriced or average, so you always want to make your purchases carefully. If you don’t, you may not be able to fulfill your objectives in time, and some levels in the game can be quite challenging.

Fix-it-up 80s has 45 levels in story mode with eight different locations, and all of the levels can also be played in free mode. There are several achievements to unlock, plus lots of fun pop culture 80s references, so if you’re a fan of the other Kate games, or of time management games in general, this is a worthwhile purchase.

You can download the game for free to give it a try, but the full game will need to be purchased in-app. It’s currently on sale for just $2.99 for the iPhone or $4.99 for the iPad, which is a good deal for time management lovers.
