Just Tweet - The Simple Twitter app (Free) by Great Time Apps asks the question, “How simple is simple?” Twitter clients. Tweetbot, Twitterific, TweetCaster, the official Twitter app. You can kill two (or more) with one stone, but is there room for one more (that is actually quite skinny)?

This app is so bare bones that you can see its marrow. The whole app is just one black background with a field for typing your 140 or less characters. Oh, you can also add a location. Just tap the blue “send tweet” button and that’s it.

You won’t see the tweet show in your timeline within the app because there is no timeline. You wouldn’t be able to see within the app who retweeted it because none of your followers are shown.

So, is this enough?

The advantage I see to this app is that if you’re just interested in sending a tweet quickly, then you don’t need your timeline or any other options. Depending on which client you have and how big your feed gets, loading the app can take a bit. There’s nothing to Just Tweet, meaning it will load quicker to get the job done.

Obviously, the glaring disadvantage is the lack of everything else. Essentially, this app relies on another Twitter client or the actual site to actually see your tweet live. The interface also has a serious case of negative space. This is especially so on the iPad.

The developer could at least add a picture of a bluebird or add a spot for you to upload your own background. Even if your goal is to get in and get out, it’d still be nice to have something to look at along the way.

I think that considering how backwards the initial user experience is (you have to enter your Twitter credentials after typing your tweet the first time), this app has a distinct feel of a developer cutting his or her teeth.

Whatever your take on the app, it certainly is a bold move. Perhaps you may find it useful, or perhaps you would think it redundant. Either way, it’s a free download.
