Quirky App Of The Day: Black Tower 3 Destroy

Black Tower 3 Destroy is a trajectory game with awesome animation and simple gameplay. In short, it combines some of my favorite things into one, neat little package. Set with a black and white background, the only thing that has any color are the gems that are thrown. Each gem color represents a different ability. The rest of the app is simple in design and form.
The main character is a stick figure that lobs the gems at monsters. I happen to be a sucker for stick figures. My definition of great graphics is whether I can distinguish fingers or not. In my opinion, though, it tends to place more emphasis on gameplay than graphics development. That being said, graphics definitely have their place. I played Dead Space on the iPad and almost cried at the beauty and detail of the gameplay. Playing Doom was a walk down memory lane. When it comes to simple, quirky iPhone apps, I'm a fan of simplicity due to the smaller screen and compact playing space.
As for the monsters, I almost feel bad bashing them into oblivion with gems. They're cute with their awkward, nerdy presence. They shuffle their feet, tilt from side to side, and basically act adorable while you take more careful aim. Sometimes, they're alone; other times, they're in small groups. The name of the game is to hit them with as few gems as possible. The fewer gems you use, the more stars you get toward your final score.
Stars are usually just markers for how well you completed a level. In Black Tower 3, they are saved for upgrades in the store. The upgrades start around 200 stars. Since I only can seem to get one star per level, I have a ways to go before I can buy anything. However, I won't say that the game is overly difficult. I just seem to be terrible at playing it.
