Quirky App Of The Day: Thief

Thief is an app about stealing valuable objects. No, it doesn't actually promote stealing. That would be irresponsible. This app is more about fun with number combinations. See? That's a little better. It's not walking anyone through the motions of how to pull off an Ocean's 11 perfect heist. It's just applied math. Just like how my high school teachers swore I'd use math in my everyday life.
All joking aside, Thief is a game centered around cracking the alarm code before the timer runs out. The lower levels give more time and less digits than the higher levels. Once you hit four digits with under a minute to crack the code, your palms start sweating a little. At first, I was skeptical about how well this game would handle something as difficult as cracking a three digit code. Yes, I know it doesn't sound hard, but there are obviously hundreds of combinations. Luckily, there's a red note on the alarm if your number is too high or too low. This definitely helps to circle around the possibilities and land on the correct code. For a little while there, I thought it would just beep at me if I was wrong, and then I'd say something that would have to be beeped out. Once time starts to hit the 30 second mark, you can hear footsteps and voices outside, like people are coming after you. It's pretty cool. I was enjoying the game, mainly because I like time crunch and the logic games. By the end, I had worked out my own system of what guessing routine worked best. In retrospect, it's probably a great thing that real security systems don't have a prompt of how close you are to guessing the correct code. "Thanks for trying to crack the code. Keep going! You're on the right track." Thief is a universal app available in the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
